In collaboration with Danish Embassy and Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate of Denmark, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Vietnam launches the Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2017 in Melia Hotel Hanoi, on September 20. This is a collaborative publication with a comprehensive contribution of Institute of Energy Vietnam.
The Vietnam Energy Outlook report 2017 is an outstanding product in a collaboration between Government of Vietnam and Denmark in Low-carbon transition. Speaking at the event, MOIT Deputy Minister Hoang Quoc Vuong Hoàng Quốc Vượng highly appreciated the support from Danish Government. He also stressed that the report is a product of great significance in Vietnam’s direction for energy development in linking it with economic growth, environmental protection and energy security.
The report particularly focuses input analysis to energy planning in order to point out the orientation for energy development in general and power development in particular toward 2050, and based on energy potential and least-cost optimization approachs in medium and long term.
It also looks into the opportunities and challenges to Vietnam’s sustainable energy development and energy security with reasonable cost and in accordance with the development conditions of the country.
Based on a set of proposed power system scenarios, the report provides policy recommendations for the development of electricity and low-carbon emission energy by intensifying the use of renewable energy and promoting energy efficiency.
The report also updates key results from the National Energy master plan by 2035 which has been developed by Institute of Energy. For the period after 2035, the international team has used the Balmorel model to develop power system scenarios for Vietnam. Balmorel is a commercial software and developed by the international consultant EA Energy Analysis. It has been used for many projects in different territories, including developed countries such as Denmark, United Kingdom and North America, etc.,
In Vietnam, Balmorel was started in July 2015, A draft version was developed and transferred in September 2015. Since then, in collaboration with Institute of Energy it is continuously updated and transferred to experts and officers from National Load Dispatch Center, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Electric Power University and Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam.
