Study to develop the improvement model for Northern Vietnam medium voltage network basing on long run marginal cost

Currently the Vietnamese medium voltage network (MVN) has too many voltage levels. There are many controversial issues in MVN of Viet Nam such as selection of voltage level, improvement road map of 22 kV level, continued usage of 35 kV or not in some areas.

Improvement- orienting conclusions should have scientific bases with the quantitative indicators for economic and technical comparisons. This article introduces the research methodology for development orientation of MVN. This methodology aims at ensuring the overall economy by studying typical areas suitable for calculation, then based on the results to expand into general improvement and development orientation for the studied region. The study results show that the LRMC (Long Run Marginal Cost) can be used as a general economic indicator to calculate and compare development plan options for power networks with typical structures. From the calculation results for typical areas, the development orientation for MVN of the Northern Vietnam can be proposed for the coming period.
